Kamala Harris wins Maine by small margin over Donald Trump

Vice President Kamala Harris won Maine by a narrow margin on Tuesday, winning three out of the state’s four electors in her loss to former President Donald Trump.
The Democrat had 51.3 percent of votes to 46.7 percent for former President Donald Trump when the Bangor Daily News and its national partner, Decision Desk HQ, called Maine for Harris at 3:24 a.m. Wednesday. Third-party candidates split 2 percent of votes.
There have only been two smaller margins of victory in statewide presidential elections here going back to 1980. Trump lost the state by less than 3 percentage points in 2016. This year, his strong victory in the 2nd Congressional District narrowed Harris’ edge in the 1st District.
In Presque Isle, 23-year-old Natasha McNaughton, a stay-at-home mother, made an implicit reference to the 2022 U.S. Supreme Court decision to overturn federal abortion rights, which was inked by a conservative majority clinched by Trump appointees. He has said during this campaign that he would not pursue a national abortion ban.
“I was worried about losing my reproductive rights as a woman and a part of the LGBTQ community,” McNaughton said. “I don’t want to lose any more reproductive rights.”
